"Are you sure you'll be okay with them? Did you see the routine I left on the fridge?" I'd gotten changed into some jeans and a pair of ankle boots at Christopher's request. When I'd come out and he'd spied my shoes, he muttered something about needing to get me some real boots. Personally, I figured these would do since I was leaving in a week and a bit anyway.

"Yes, we'll be okay and yes I saw it." Matty dropped his hands on both of my shoulders and stared into my eyes. "We will be fine. You showed me the food in the fridge, and I'll put that tray in the oven if you aren't back by three. Go and have some fun."

His hands gripped my shoulders and turned me towards the back doors, where Christopher was waiting for me with a sweet smile on his face and a brown paper bag holding our food. I slowly made my way over to him, glancing back at the boys in their playpen.

"They'll be fine. Matty is their father, not a stranger. Besides, I saw the routine. He has more than enough information to get him through the day."

I let out a massive sigh, the loose strands of hair around my face fluttering from my efforts. "Yeah, I know. Okay, sorry. You're right. Let's go."

Christopher held the door open for me, ushering me out on the veranda and down the back stairs. Walking along the worn path, we crossed the bridge, our shoes echoing over the wood.

"So, we are going to ride out down the main path. I'll take you past the horses and then I thought we might head over to the waterfall?"

I stopped in my tracks. "You have a waterfall on your ranch?"

Christopher stopped as well, once he realized that I had frozen mid step. "Uh, yeah. It's actually the one the town is named after. The River Falls. The water that comes down through the mountains and feeds all of the ranches comes off the falls on our land and then separates into smaller rivers and gullies. Some we had to make, but others are natural; you can barely tell the difference these days."

"I'll be right back, don't go anywhere!" I exclaimed, before whirling around on my heel and running back up to the house. Flinging the back door open and startling Matthew, I ran into my room and grabbed my camera, a backpack I barely used, and a whole bunch of empty film rolls.

A waterfall. They have a freaking waterfall on their ranch.

I threw a hurried wave at Matty who was on the floor with the boys, playpen removed, all of them watching me like I was a crazy person.

The door may have closed a bit more firmly than I’d intended as I dashed out and got back to Christopher.

Breathing heavily, I came to a stop in front of him and awkwardly opened my bag. "Had to... get... my cam... camera." Standing upright, I triumphantly showed him my backpack.
